Knowledge Gap in Protection Mechanisms and Economic Rights ?? ""

Findings from the baseline study of the project “Empowering Women Entrepreneurs in Al-Shamayatayn through Protection, Strengthening Civic Space, and Advocating for Economic Rights” reveal a significant gap in women entrepreneurs’ knowledge of their economic and legal rights and the protection mechanisms available to them.

The study indicates that:

  • 57.5% of women entrepreneurs are unaware of their economic rights.
  • 22.5% experience a severe lack of knowledge regarding these rights.

The study also points to cases of discrimination and extortion affecting women entrepreneurs in markets and public spaces, alongside low levels of reporting of such violations.

These findings highlight the need to strengthen legal and economic awareness among women entrepreneurs and to develop more effective mechanisms for protection, reporting, and access to legal support, contributing to a safer and more equitable working environment for women.

This forms part of the advocacy track for women entrepreneurs and women working in the private sector.
